PROMETHEUS - Istria Peninsula

The Prometheus, sitting upright in just 11 metres of water off the Istrian coast, is a fantastic introduction to wreck diving. We love how accessible it is, perfect for those new to wrecks or anyone looking for a relaxed dive. The former cargo ship sank in 1917 after hitting a mine, and though it’s been down for over a century, the stern is still remarkably intact, towering over the seabed. Swimming along the deck, you’ll spot a resident conger eel peering from a pipe, and we often see schools of glinting damselfish darting between the metalwork. Penetration isn't really an option here, but there's plenty to explore externally. Our favourite part is lingering over the propellor, which is completely covered in orange sponge. It's an easy dive, often with good visibility, making it a great spot for underwater photography, especially when the light filters down through the upper structure. We'd suggest going early to avoid any boat traffic.
