Pumpwerk Meilen - Istria Peninsula
Sirens, on Malta’s north coast, is one of those sites we always recommend for a relaxed afternoon dive, especially if you're staying nearby. You get a lot of variety without having to fight a crowd or battle the elements. The entry from the rocky shore is straightforward, slipping into a generally calm, shallow bay. We love heading out along the reef, watching for flashes of scarlet coral in the crevices and keeping an eye out for a sleepy dusky grouper tucked under an overhang. What really makes Sirens special for us are the smaller residents. The black gobies are always darting about, and if you take your time, you'll spot butterfly blennies perched on rocks, or even a sea horse clinging to some seagrass. Our favourite find here has to be the elliptical file-shell, their tiny, almost iridescent shells are a treat. Conditions are usually pretty mellow, making it a great spot for newer divers to build confidence, or for photographers who want to spend time hunting for macro subjects without a strong current pushing them around. Visibility typically sits around 15-20 metres on a good day, clear enough to enjoy the topography and the vibrant colours of the smaller creatures.
