Relitto della Piattaforma Paguro - Istria Peninsula

The Paguro platform wreck isn’t one of those grand, intact shipwrecks, but don’t let that put you off. It’s actually the remains of an old offshore drilling rig that partially collapsed and sank back in the 70s. What’s left is a fascinating tangle of girders and metalwork, all sitting pretty at about 21 metres. We love how the light plays through the structure, creating these incredible silhouettes, especially on a sunny afternoon. It’s an easy dive, perfect for newer wreck enthusiasts, and you can spend a good 45 minutes just slowly finning around, through, and over the various sections. Look closely and you’ll spot nudibranchs, often some vibrant ones, clinging to the metal. There are usually decent-sized schools of damselfish flitting about, and we’ve seen conger eels poking their heads out from deeper within the framework. It’s a completely different vibe from a sunken boat, more like exploring an artificial reef that’s still in the process of becoming. Our favourite tip? Go early or late to avoid the crowds from nearby dive centres; it makes a huge difference to the peaceful atmosphere.
