Schildegg - Istria Peninsula

Reef Patches, off Kiritimati, doesn't try to be a dramatic wall or a drift highway. It’s a slow-burn site, a network of shallow coral heads pushing up from the sand. We love it for the sheer density of small, interesting things you just don't notice when you're roaring past a reef face. Drop in and you're surrounded by the gentle pulse of the Pacific. The light here filters down through the shallows, illuminating every crevice. We’ve spent whole dives just poking around a single coral head, finding cleaner mimic blennies darting in and out, or the shy arc-eye hawkfish perched perfectly on a branch. Keep an eye out for the bright flash of blue-spotted wrasse, and if you’re patient, you might spot a tigerfish or a snakehead cowrie slowly making its way across the seabed. It’s a place for macro enthusiasts, or anyone who enjoys really slowing down and observing the small dramas unfolding on the reef. Our advice? Go early, before the sun gets too high, and take your time. You’ll be rewarded.
