Schoggiwand - Istria Peninsula

Recife das Pinaúnas is a site we keep coming back to when we’re in Salvador, a real local’s spot without the crowds you sometimes get closer to shore. It’s a shallow, vibrant coral reef, absolutely perfect for a relaxed dive or even a long snorkel on a calm day. We’ve spent hours here just drifting, watching the Butterbun and Mulet schools swirl around the coral bommies. Our favourite thing about Pinaúnas is the sheer variety of smaller, often overlooked creatures. Look closely and you’ll find those quirky Hourglass clingfish tucked into crevices and, if you’re patient, a Sand Stargazer half-buried, eyes peeking out. The Angelfish are bold here, not shy at all, and we always spot a few Bastard soldierfish lurking in the shadows. It’s a fantastic spot for macro photography, and we’d suggest going early in the morning before any wind picks up, when the light is softer and the reef is just waking up.
