Unterwilen - Istria Peninsula

Reef Patches, or what we affectionately call "GT Central," is one of those spots that just buzzes with energy. We always try to get here when the tide is pushing, because that’s when the big giant trevally come in to hunt. You’ll hang out in about 15 metres, often with a decent current, just watching these enormous fish absolutely explode on schools of fusiliers. It’s not a delicate coral garden; it’s a raw, predatory spectacle. We've spent entire dives here, kneeling in the sand, just mesmerized by the sheer power. Beyond the trevally, keep an eye out for the chameleon parrotfish nibbling at the coral and the flashes of Achilles tang. It's not a site for macro enthusiasts looking for tiny nudibranchs, though the odd peacock-tail anemone shrimp might catch your eye if you slow down. Reef Patches is for divers who love big fish action and don't mind a bit of a current. It’s a sensory overload in the best possible way.
