VITTORIA - Istria Peninsula

The *Vittoria* is a little beauty, a fishing boat that went down in the First World War. We love that it’s so shallow, sitting upright at just 13 metres. That means long bottom times and plenty of light filtering down, painting the wreck in shifting shades of blue and green. You can spend ages poking around the deck, imagining what life was like for the crew. The bow is particularly photogenic, with its chain locker still visible, and the stern has started to break down, revealing a busy ecosystem. This isn’t a massive, imposing wreck, but it has a real character. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the superstructure, and we’ve often spotted scorpionfish camouflaged on the deck plates, along with the occasional moray eel peeking from a crevice. It’s perfect for new wreck divers or anyone who just wants a relaxed dive without the pressure of depth. Our top tip? Go in the morning when the light is at its best, it really brings out the colours of the sponges and soft corals that have colonised the hull. If you’re into macro photography, this wreck is a goldmine.
