Vitznau - Istria Peninsula

Reef Patches, off Christmas Island, gives you exactly what the name suggests, but in the best possible way. Picture individual coral heads, some the size of small cars, rising from the sand, each one a miniature ecosystem. We love drifting slowly between them, letting the gentle surge carry us, watching parrotfish like the Rivulated and Blue Trim pick away at the coral, their crunching audible if you listen close. This isn’t a wall dive or a drift dive. It's an intimate exploration. You’ll spot groups of Black Surgeonfish moving with purpose, and we’ve often found Blackfish hovering in the slight current, almost oblivious to our presence. Keep an eye out for the more reclusive residents too, like the Undulated Moray peeking from its hideaway, or a tiny Lamarck's Porcelain Crab clinging to its coral home. It’s a photographer’s dream if macro is your thing, but equally rewarding for divers who just want to slow down and truly observe the smaller dramas unfolding on each patch.
