Wassersportzentrum Zürich (WZT) - Istria Peninsula

The HMS Southesk sits quietly, a solid chunk of history, not far from the shore. It’s a 1912 naval trawler, sunk deliberately, and honestly, we think it’s one of the more underrated dives in Scapa Flow. While everyone flocks to the battleships, the Southesk offers something different – a more intimate wreck experience. You can see the trawler's outline clearly, its hull encrusted with anemones and hydroids, a riot of colour in the ambient light. We love picking out the details: the winch gear, the old davits, often draped with kelp. Currents here can be lively, so time your dive for slack water; it makes all the difference when you're navigating the superstructure. Keep an eye out for the resident shore crabs scuttling over the plates and common seals often pop by for a curious look, especially if you’re patient. The wreck itself isn't massive, but the growth is thick and you can spend a good forty minutes just drifting along, taking in the scale and imagining the noise of it settling on the seabed. It's a fantastic spot for photographers looking for that classic Scapa Flow texture, without the heavy penetration demands of the bigger boys.
