Wrack Lina - Istria Peninsula

The Wrack Lina, off the Istrian coast, isn’t just another sunken ship. It’s a beautifully preserved piece of history that’s become an ecosystem in its own right. We love how the Lina sits upright and largely intact, making for an incredibly evocative dive. You can swim into the cargo holds, where the light filters in through the hull breaches, illuminating schools of poor cod darting between the rusty beams. It feels like exploring a ghost ship, but one that’s very much alive. Our favourite part is the stern, where the propeller and rudder are still in place, encrusted with sunset cup corals and bushy corals that add splashes of colour. Keep an eye out for conger eels peeking from crevices and the bright scarlet coral clinging to exposed metalwork. For photographers, the Lina offers incredible opportunities, especially early in the morning before any boat traffic stirs up the sediment. We’d suggest a dive with good trim to appreciate the scale without disturbing the delicate silt. It’s a dive that rewards slow, deliberate exploration, perfect for anyone who appreciates both history and the resilience of marine life.
