Wreck VIS - Istria Peninsula

The Wreck VIS, off the Istrian coast, isn't just another chunk of metal on the seabed. This former Yugoslav Navy ship, scuttled in 1946, has settled upright at 30 metres, mostly intact. What we love about it is the sheer scale – you can still trace its original purpose, from the command bridge to the deck guns now encrusted with sponges. Exploring the VIS feels like stepping back in time, a silent patrol through a forgotten era. We’d suggest two dives here to properly take it all in. The bow is particularly photogenic, often swathed in schools of damselfish that scatter as you approach. Keep an eye out for conger eels peeking from portholes and the occasional lobster tucked into crevices. The ship's structure provides ample shelter, so even on days with a bit of swell topside, the wreck itself feels calm. It’s a site that rewards attentive exploration and is perfect for divers comfortable with deeper profiles who appreciate a piece of history.
