CITTA DI ALESSANDRIA - Larnaca

The Citta di Alessandria is less a dive and more a snorkel, really. Sitting in just five metres of water, this carrier vessel ran aground in heavy seas back in '72. We love it because it’s so accessible, a proper piece of history you can reach from shore with just a mask and fins. When you duck your head under, you’ll see the bow section largely intact, broken up but still recognisable. Sunlight streams through the shallow water, illuminating the rust-coloured metal. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the twisted girders, and we’ve often spotted octopus tucked away in crevices, their eyes watching you. It’s not a deep, dramatic exploration, but there’s a real charm to hovering above the wreckage, imagining the ship's final moments. It’s our pick for a leisurely afternoon, perfect for photographers or anyone wanting a relaxed dip with a bit of character. Grab a cheap rental from a shop in Larnaca, and you’re set.
