MICHALIOS - Larnaca

The Michailios wreck is a serious piece of history, just outside Larnaca. You’re descending onto a 107-meter steamship, torpedoed by a U-boat in 1943. It’s sitting upright at 30 meters, and its size really hits you as you get closer; the deck fittings, the massive boilers, they’re all still so clear. We love tracing the superstructure, imagining the crew on watch during the war. Inside, the light filtering through the open hatches creates these dramatic shafts, and it’s a brilliant contrast to the dark, rust-coloured steel. Look for the resident groupers, usually hanging around the bridge area, and the nudibranchs that cling to the less exposed sections. We always find something new here, a small detail we missed before. It’s a dive for those who appreciate wrecks with a story, and the depth means it’s best for experienced divers comfortable with longer bottom times.
