Carwitzer See - Bornholm

Sau Inn Garden, off Pemba, really lives up to its name. It’s not a dramatic drop-off or a big drift, but a sprawling, gentle slope, mostly around the 15-20 meter mark. What we love here is the sheer density of coral, huge plate corals creating overhangs, brain corals the size of small cars, and whips reaching out into the slight current. You can spend an entire dive just exploring a small section, peeking under ledges for blue-spotted stingrays or spotting the ornate patterns of cowries clinging to the coral. Keep an eye out for green turtles, they’re often just grazing on the softer corals, seemingly unfazed by divers. We’ve also had some fantastic encounters with little post horn squid here, masters of camouflage, they’re tricky to spot but a real treat. It’s a site that rewards slow diving, good buoyancy, and a keen eye. Think of it as an underwater scavenger hunt rather than a grand spectacle. Ideal for photographers or those who just want to relax and absorb the quiet rhythm of the reef. We'd suggest going mid-morning, after the initial rush of boats, for the best light and fewer other divers.
