CONMARK - Bornholm

The Conmark wreck off Bornholm is one of those sites we always recommend to divers who appreciate a good story with their dive. She’s a sturdy motor vessel, sitting upright at a shallow 17 metres, which makes for a long bottom time even on a single tank. The collision in 1970 with the Else Retzlaff left her surprisingly intact; you can still make out the superstructure and even parts of the deck machinery, all now draped in thick swathes of green and brown algae, waving gently in the mild current. What we love about the Conmark is how accessible the exploration is. You can easily swim through some of the larger openings, peeking into cargo holds where cod and pollock often shelter. The visibility here can vary, but on a good day, with the sun filtering down, the light plays beautifully off the encrusted metalwork. Keep an eye out for the resident crabs scuttling over the hull plates and the occasional flatfish camouflaged against the sandy seabed near the stern. We’d suggest diving this one mid-morning for the best light penetration. It’s a genuinely engaging wreck dive, ideal for those looking to spend time exploring the details rather than just passing by.
