ELSE DAHL - Bornholm

The Else Dahl, down at 50 metres off Bornholm, is a proper technical dive, and one we always enjoy for its sheer sense of discovery. This isn't a brightly lit, shallow-water wreck; it’s a deep, dark dive into history, often with limited visibility that really sharpens your focus. We love the challenge here. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the cold embrace of the Baltic, then the distinct silhouette of the fishing vessel emerging from the gloom. You’ll find the wreck largely intact, a real testament to its deep resting place. The wheelhouse is a highlight for us, open to exploration if you’re comfortable with overhead environments and good on your trim. Look for the trawl doors lying nearby – they’re huge, giving you a sense of the scale of this old fishing operation. While we haven't logged specific species, the wreck has become an artificial reef, attracting cod and pollack that dart through the structure, and occasionally a curious scorpionfish tucked into a crevice. It’s a dive for experienced wreck enthusiasts and technical divers, definitely not one for your open water certification. We always find ourselves lingering, imagining the lives of the crew who once worked this very deck.
