EVA MARIE - Bornholm

The Eva Marie, tucked just off the coast of Bornholm, isn't a deep dive, by any stretch. Four metres, maximum, means you'll probably get more bottom time than you know what to do with. But don't let the shallowness fool you. This isn't some broken-up pile of timber; it’s a remarkably intact small fishing cutter, perfectly preserved in the Baltic's cool embrace since 1961. We love how the light plays on her deck, especially on a sunny afternoon. What makes Eva Marie a standout for us is the accessibility combined with the character. You can swim right into her wheelhouse, peer into the engine room, even see the anchor winch on the bow. It’s like stepping back in time. Despite the lack of colourful corals you’d find further south, the wreck is completely colonised by various crabs, small blennies, and surprisingly bold gobies. They dart in and out of every crack and crevice. It’s a photographer's dream for macro shots, particularly if you're patient. We'd suggest aiming for a calm day; visibility can be a bit temperamental with any surface chop. And bring a good torch; even in four metres, the interior can get delightfully moody. This site is brilliant for newer wreck divers or anyone who appreciates a piece of maritime history you can genuinely explore without deep-diving technical skills.
