HANS EGEDE - Bornholm

The HANS EGEDE, resting in Bornholm's shallow waters, is a dive for those who love their history tangled with a bit of mystery. We're talking 18th-century sailing vessel, sunk in 1760, and surprisingly intact for its age. At a mere 8 meters deep, it’s a brilliant afternoon dive, especially when the sun is high and piercing through the Baltic's cool green. Dropping down, the ship's timbers emerge from the gloom, dark wood against the sandy bottom. You can trace the outline of the hull, feel the rough texture of the planks still holding their shape. Our favourite part is navigating through the broken deck beams and imagining the ship's final moments. It's not a riot of colour, but the wreck has become a solid home for critters. We’ve seen plenty of crabs scuttling over the wooden structure, and small schools of Baltic cod often hang out in the shadowy nooks. It’s a genuinely atmospheric dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who appreciates a shipwreck with a story to tell. Be aware, though, visibility can vary, so pick a calm day after a period of settled weather for the best experience.
