HERRANG - Bornholm

Herrang isn't just a wreck; it's a cold-water time capsule off Bornholm, a site we think often gets overlooked. Dropping down to 31 meters, you hit the bow first, typically shrouded in the greenish gloom that defines Baltic diving. But don't let that deter you. As your eyes adjust, the sheer size of this old cargo ship starts to emerge. We love how the hull is draped in a thick carpet of plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying gently, catching every particle of passing plankton. This isn't a penetration dive for the faint-hearted, but there are plenty of swim-throughs into cargo holds that are now home to fat cod and curious blennies peeking from rusted crevices. Visibility here can be tricky, sometimes just a few meters, sometimes a decent 10-15m, so we'd suggest going on a calm day, ideally after a few days of settled weather. The stern section, in particular, has collapsed, creating a labyrinth of twisted metal where you'll often find ling or even a sneaky conger eel hiding out. It's a real adventure for experienced wreck divers who appreciate the character of a genuinely old vessel.
