JYKTA (OR JYTKA) - Bornholm

Jytka is a peculiar spot, and we love it for being so accessible. This isn't a deep dive, just 10 metres, making it perfect for a relaxed exploration. The wreck itself is a tugboat, the Jytka, which went down after a storm back in the 1950s. She’s surprisingly intact, lying on her port side, and you can still make out the wheelhouse and engine room. We've spent many a dive just poking around the deck, imagining the final moments. What really makes Jytka special, though, is how nature has reclaimed it. The metalwork is covered in vibrant anemones and sponges, and we’ve spotted some impressively large cod lurking in the deeper sections of the wreck. Look closely, and you’ll find nudibranchs crawling over everything. It’s a gentle dive, generally with mild currents, but always check the local conditions. Our favourite tip? Go on a calm, sunny day; the visibility improves dramatically, and the light filtering through the clear Baltic water on the wreck is just something else. It feels less like a wreck and more like a living sculpture.
