KAREN H 1567 (POSSIBLY) - Bornholm

Okay, so the Karen H. We’ve all seen a few trawlers on the seabed, but this one, off Bornholm, has a real story to tell, even if her exact identity is still a bit of a mystery. She sits upright, pretty much intact at 21 metres, which means the deck is still very accessible. We love that you can drop straight down and start exploring the wheelhouse, then move aft along the superstructure. Look for the winch gear, still draped with a few fishing lines – a stark reminder of her working life. The visibility here can be decent, especially on a calm day, letting the natural light filter down and pick out the details. Shoals of small cod and pollack often hold station around the mast, and we’ve seen some surprisingly large flatfish tucked into the sand nearby. Our favourite part? The way the light catches the rust-coloured hull, making it glow against the colder Baltic water. It’s a proper wreck dive, uncomplicated but full of character, perfect for those who enjoy a bit of maritime history without a massive depth commitment. If you’re into exploring nooks and crannies, this one delivers.
