KASTOR - Bornholm

Kastor is a peculiar one, and we love it for being so accessible. This isn't your deep, technical wreck dive; the old schooner lies in just a metre of water, a real shallow splash-and-go. It went down back in 1901, though the records sometimes say 1950, which is just a bit of local colour for you. We’ve found the best way to experience Kastor is to go slow, really pick apart the details of the hull that’s now so broken up. You’ll see the wooden ribs poking out of the sand, a ghostly skeleton that’s become home to a surprising amount of life. Little crabs skitter through the cracks, and tiny blennies dart between the barnacle-encrusted timbers. It’s not about big pelagics here; it's about the intricate ecosystem that thrives on decay. We’d suggest a calm, sunny day to really appreciate the light playing on the wreck, enhancing the amber hues of the wood against the pale sand. It's a fantastic spot for snorkelers or new divers looking to get a feel for a wreck without the pressure of depth. Just watch out for stray bits of wood, it’s an old girl and she’s coming apart.
