KNIPPLA - Bornholm

Okay, Knippla might not be your typical tropical escape, but for wreck lovers, this is a seriously good dive. Located off Bornholm, it’s a genuine slice of maritime history, a steamship that met its end on a mine back in 1916. Given its shallow depth, just 10 metres, it’s an accessible wreck for most divers, and that makes it one of our favourite North Sea dives. When you descend, the first thing you notice is the way the light filters through the relatively green water, illuminating the ghostly outline of the hull. We love picking out the details of the machinery, especially the boilers, which are still remarkably intact and full of atmosphere. It’s a shallow site, so you get decent bottom time to really explore the structure. Look closely, and you’ll spot cod lurking in the shadows, along with a surprising number of crabs scuttling over the plating. The low light and the sense of history give Knippla a really distinct, almost eerie, charm. It’s a dive that rewards slow, careful exploration, letting you connect with a piece of the past.
