LANDKIRSCHEN - Bornholm
Bornholm might be better known for its sunshine than its shipwrecks, but Landkirschen proves the Baltic has its own stories to tell. This German merchant vessel, sunk in '43, lies in just 7 metres of water, making it a fantastic shallow dive. We love the way the light filters down, illuminating the main deck structure and the scattered debris. You can poke around the remains of the holds, imagining the cargo she once carried. It’s not a massive wreck, but it’s remarkably intact for its age and depth. For us, the real magic here is the way the Baltic marine life has completely taken over. We've seen fat cod lurking in the shadow of the hull, and schools of juvenile pollack darting through the superstructure. Green sea squirts cling to every surface, and the entire wreck is carpeted in a thick growth of red algae, giving it a wonderfully eerie, almost organic feel. Visibility can vary, but on a good day, it’s a brilliant site for newer wreck divers or anyone who just wants a relaxed, atmospheric dive. Go on a calm morning, you'll thank us.
