LENA REHDE - Bornholm

The Lena Rehde. Now there's a wreck with a story, and a real standout for us in the Baltic. She was a minelayer, sunk by a mine she was actually carrying back in ‘42. Irony, eh? Lying in just ten metres, she’s a perfect depth for taking your time. We love just tracing her outline, imagining what it must have been like in those final moments. The wreck itself is pretty broken up, but that’s part of her charm. Hull plates are strewn about, creating these fantastic nooks and crannies that are home to all sorts of critters. You’ll find cod sheltering in the deeper sections, and sometimes we’ve even spotted flatfish tucked into the sand right beside her ribs. Visibility can be a bit variable here, so we’d suggest aiming for a calm day, especially if you want to really appreciate the scale of the debris field. Exploring the scattered remains, you get a strong sense of history, a real connection to the past. It’s not about corals here, it’s about the wreck itself, and the resilient life that’s made it home. This one’s for divers who appreciate history and the quiet beauty of a wreck slowly succumbing to the sea.
