LUTJEHORN - Bornholm

The Lutjehorn is one of those wrecks that just hits different. We’re talking about a proper steamship, 84 metres long, lying upright and mostly intact at 17 metres. She went down in 1945 after hitting a mine, and you can still feel that history as you glide over her deck. Diving the Lutjehorn feels like stepping back in time. The bow is particularly striking, with its anchor chains draped like sleeping serpents. As you fin along the superstructure, you’ll spot huge schools of cod darting in and out of the holds – some of them are enormous. We’ve seen blennies peering out from every nook and cranny, and if you’re patient, a few curious lumpfish might even come to check you out. This wreck is fantastic for divers who appreciate history and want to explore a substantial vessel without going too deep. Our favourite part is lingering around the bridge area, imagining the final moments. Visibility can be a bit variable here, so we’d suggest going on a calm day; it really brings out the detail. Don’t rush it; there’s a lot to take in.
