METTE PAN - Bornholm

The Mette Pan isn't your typical deep, dark wreck dive. For starters, it’s ridiculously shallow, sitting in just three metres of water off Bornholm. This makes it a fantastic shore dive, especially when the Baltic is calm. We love pulling on our drysuits and wading in to find this old dredger, which capsized back in '70, then was raised, repaired, and re-sunk here for divers. What you get is a surprisingly intact, accessible wreck. You can clearly see the hull, the framework, and what’s left of the machinery. Visibility can vary, as it always does in the Baltic, but on a good day, the light penetration is incredible, illuminating the wreck in an eerie green glow. Schools of juvenile cod often drift lazily through the structure, and we’ve spotted plenty of crabs scuttling amongst the metalwork. It’s an interesting contrast to the natural reefs, offering a glimpse into the working life of the sea. For photographers, it’s a brilliant training ground for low-light wreck shots without the pressure of depth. A perfect spot for a relaxed explore, maybe even a second tank if you’re keen.
