PATILONG - Bornholm

Patilong isn't about depth, that’s for sure. At a maximum of six meters, this fishing vessel, sunk back in '81, is perfect for those days when you just want a relaxed dive with plenty to explore. It’s right there in the shallows off Bornholm, an easy entry often with calm conditions. We love how accessible it is; you can spend ages really poking around the superstructure, imagining the fishermen's last moments on deck before she went down. The wreck itself is quite broken up now, but that just adds to its character. You’ll find sections of hull, engine parts, and twisted metal, all encrusted with local algae and anemones. It’s not a big ship, but what makes it special is the sheer volume of critters that call it home. Schools of tiny juvenile fish dart between the rusting plates, and we often spot flatfish camouflaged on the sandy bottom nearby. Keep an eye out for crabs scuttling in the shadows. Our favourite time to dive Patilong is late afternoon, when the sun's lower angle gives the whole site a moody, ethereal glow. It’s an ideal spot for macro photography or for new divers gaining confidence around a proper wreck.
