PERNILLE FROM - Bornholm

The Pernille From. Now that’s a wreck with a story, and one we always enjoy revisiting. This old fishing trawler, sunk in 1991 after a collision, sits upright at 27 metres, pretty much intact. We love how the wheelhouse is still there, just begging for a peek inside, and the mast stretches up, a ghostly finger pointing to the surface. It’s a proper historical wreck, and you can practically feel the echoes of its working life when you’re down there, especially when you spot the old fishing gear still tangled on deck. This site is ideal for experienced divers who appreciate wreck penetration and navigating slightly silty interiors. On a good visibility day, which for Bornholm can mean anything from 8 to 15 metres, the sunlight filters through, making the schools of cod darting in and out of the hold look almost ethereal. We’ve also seen some impressive lumpsuckers clinging to the superstructure, and the anemones have really started to take hold, adding splashes of colour to the rust. Our favourite tip? Go early. You get the best light, and often the resident blennies are a little less shy.
