Skellerev - Bornholm

Sælhage isn't what most divers picture when you say "reef," but that's precisely why we love it. Forget your tropical colours; this is the North Sea, raw and beautiful. Here, the reef isn't built by tiny polyps, but by ancient stone and the sheer force of the ocean, creating crevices and overhangs that are home to an impressive list of cold-water characters. We’ve spent hours here, meticulously exploring the nooks. You’ll find Atlantic cod lurking, sometimes surprisingly large, and the occasional bull rout staring you down from a rocky cranny. Fluke and common dragonet hug the sandy patches between the rocks, perfectly camouflaged. We always keep an eye out for the common sea stars, often massive, clinging to the stone. It’s a site that rewards slow diving and a keen eye, less about grand vistas and more about discovering the small, tough wonders of this northern sea. Dive on a calm day; the visibility improves dramatically. It suits divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of temperate waters and are ready for something a bit different.
