Let's be clear upfront: the U 2544 is a serious dive. This isn't your average poke-around-a-fishing-boat scenario. Dropping down to 25 metres, the sheer scale of this Type XXI U-boat hits you first. We love the way she sits upright, mostly intact, a ghostly shadow on the Bornholm seabed. We’re talking 76 metres of wartime history, scuttled back in 1945. Our favourite part is exploring the conning tower, a real choke point that gives you a sense of its original function. You’ll find cod and ling often hanging out in the darker sections, and the deck plates are thick with small anemones. Visibility can be a challenge here, particularly after a strong blow, but on a good day, when the light penetrates, it’s an incredibly atmospheric experience. We’d suggest a sidemount setup if you're keen on any interior penetration, though we strongly advise against it without proper training and a guide who knows the wreck intimately. This dive suits experienced cold-water wreck enthusiasts who appreciate history as much as the challenge.
