VESTLAND - Bornholm

The Vestland is, hands down, our favourite wreck dive off Bornholm. You'll find her sitting upright, a Norwegian cutter from the early 1900s, remarkably intact at 40 metres. The mast still reaches up, a ghostly finger pointing towards the surface, and the stern is particularly engaging with its rudder and prop still in place. We love nosing around her wheelhouse, which is still quite recognisable, and peeking into the holds where the light filters in, illuminating the resident cod and lumpsuckers. This is a site that really rewards a slow, deliberate dive. The cold Baltic water means marine growth is less flamboyant than in tropical seas, but the wreck's structure itself, draped in sponges and anemones, provides an intriguing artificial reef. Visibility can be quite good here, especially outside of summer, often giving you the chance to see most of the vessel from a distance before you get up close. It's a dive best suited for experienced wreck divers comfortable at depth, but if you fit that bill, the Vestland offers a genuinely atmospheric journey back in time.
