VIBEKE HOJ - Bornholm

The Vibeke Høj is a proper wreck dive, a real gem if you’re into history and atmospherics. She went down fast in 1973, taking a heavy sea on her journey from Møn to Trelleborg. You feel that drama as you descend. She rests upright, surprisingly intact for the way she went, with a slight list to port, sitting at around 21 metres. What we love about this wreck is how approachable she is. Her open cargo holds are easy to penetrate, offering glimpses into what’s left of her guts. Light filters in, illuminating the structure, and the feeling of swimming through history is palpable. The wheelhouse is a highlight; it’s still largely there, giving you a sense of where the crew would have been battling that final storm. Visibility can be a bit variable here – it's the Baltic, after all – so pick a calm day if you can, preferably after a few days of settled weather. The marine life isn't tropical, but you'll often find cod sheltering in the holds, and various crustaceans have made homes in the nooks and crannies. It's a dive that rewards slow exploration, letting the story of the ship unfold around you.
