VIBEKE MADSEN - Bornholm

The Vibeke Madsen sits upright in just 10 metres of water, a trawler that sank way back in 1968. We love this wreck for its accessibility and just how much character she still holds. You can fin right through the wheelhouse, explore the engine room, and even peek into the fish hold. Her wooden hull is largely intact, softened now by decades of ocean growth. It's an easy dive, perfect for newer wreck enthusiasts, but there’s enough here to keep experienced divers happy too. What you'll find around the wreck varies with the season. In spring and summer, we’ve seen schools of herring darting around the mast, and flatfish often lie camouflaged on the sandy bottom nearby. Sometimes, a big cod will eye you from a dark corner of the engine room. Our favourite time to dive the Vibeke Madsen is on a calm, sunny morning; the light filtering through the wheelhouse windows is just beautiful. Visibility can be a bit variable in Bornholm, so pick your day carefully, but when it's good, this wreck is a real pleasure.
