WALTRAUD BEHRMANN - Bornholm

We love a good wreck, and the Waltraud Behrmann, off Bornholm, is a standout. This motor vessel sank in 1974 after a collision, and she sits upright and remarkably intact at 16 metres. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the sheer scale – 73 metres long, she’s a proper ship. Our favourite part is navigating the bridge area, where schools of cod often hang motionless, almost like they’re still on duty. We’ve also found good-sized flatfish tucked into the sand next to the hull, camouflaged perfectly. It’s an accessible depth, which means you can really take your time exploring. The holds are open, inviting you to peek inside, though we’d suggest good buoyancy control to avoid silting things out. While the visibility isn't always tropical-clear, when it's good, the light plays beautifully through the superstructure, highlighting the rust and the green growth that's taken over. It suits divers who appreciate history and the quiet beauty of an artificial reef slowly being reclaimed by the sea.
