Wreck of U-7

Diving the U-7 off Bornholm isn’t your typical Caribbean jaunt. This is cold-water wreck diving at its best, a proper piece of history preserved by the Baltic’s chilly embrace. We’ve always been drawn to wrecks that tell a story, and the U-7, a Type IIB U-boat sunk in 1936, certainly delivers. You’re descending into murky green, the visibility rarely more than a few metres, but that’s part of the charm. It makes the moment the conning tower emerges from the gloom even more dramatic. What we love about the U-7 is how intact it remains. You can still make out the torpedo tubes, the deck gun, even the propeller. It’s a tight squeeze in places, so good buoyancy is essential, but poking your head into the control room is a real thrill. Don’t expect vibrant corals, but the wreck is absolutely smothered in feather stars and anemones, providing shelter for Atlantic cod and those strange, four-bearded rocklings. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the chill, the history, and the quiet dignity of a wreck reclaiming its place on the seabed. Come in late summer for the best chance of slightly clearer conditions, but be ready for a proper expedition, not a sun-drenched drift.
