Z 28 - Bornholm
Diving the Z 28 off Bornholm is a serious undertaking, but a rewarding one for wreck enthusiasts. This German destroyer, sunk in 1945, stretches a formidable 127 metres across the seabed at a shallow 10-meter maximum depth, making it surprisingly accessible given its history. While penetration is dangerous and only for highly experienced technical divers, you can spend an entire dive exploring the vast deck, spotting the five 5.9-inch guns, and imagining the scale of this wartime vessel. The wreck is now home to various cold-water marine life; we’ve seen cod lurking in the shadows and schools of pollock darting between the superstructure. Just be ready for the often-chilly Baltic conditions and plan your dive carefully around the potentially strong currents.
