Alholm Rev - North Sea Coast

Wistari Reef. Now this is the kind of site that makes you remember why you started diving in the first place. We've spent plenty of time bouncing around the Coral Sea, and Wistari consistently delivers something special. Forget the postcards, picture this: you drop in, and immediately the sheer scale of the hard coral structures hits you. Enormous Montipora plates create these undulating landscapes, interspersed with thickets of staghorn coral. Sunlight filters down, dappling the reef, and the reef fish traffic is just relentless. Schools of fusiliers are so dense they genuinely dim the light as they pass. We love drifting along the reef edge here, keeping an eye out for the big stuff. Giant morays peek from crevices, looking a bit grumpy, while the parrotfish-particularly those blunt-heads-are constantly munching, their crunching audible if you listen closely. Look for the Blackspot and Bristle-toothed Surgeonfish weaving through the coral, and if you’re lucky, a lionfish or two will be hovering regally. This isn't a site for beginners; we'd say it’s best for confident divers comfortable with a bit of current, as it can pick up. Go early if you can; the morning light truly transforms the reef into something magical.
