Als Rev - North Sea Coast

Taylor Reef, a spot we’ve spent a fair bit of time on, truly shines when the weather plays ball. It's one of those Great Barrier Reef sites that can feel a bit overlooked, sitting off the beaten path just enough to keep the crowds thinner. Our favourite dives here often start on the outer wall, where the reef drops away into a deeper blue. You’ll frequently spot big schools of fusiliers here, swirling so densely they can actually dim the light for a moment as they pass. Keep an eye out for chameleon and Japanese parrotfish browsing the corals, their colours shifting with the light. We’ve also had some cracking encounters with longnose trevally on the hunt; they’re quick, but you’ll know they’re around by the nervous energy of the smaller reef fish. On a good day, with visibility stretching out, the sheer health of the coral is remarkable. It’s not just big bommies; there’s an intricate tapestry of hard corals, home to plenty of dot and dash butterflyfish. This is a site that rewards patience, so take it slow. It suits divers who appreciate a healthy reef system and aren't just ticking off big pelagics, though you might get a surprise.
