Asnæs Rev - North Sea Coast

Stevens Reef on the Great Barrier Reef is one of those spots that just delivers. We love the drift here, it’s a lazy ride that lets you soak in the sheer scale of the place. You glide over immense fields of staghorn coral, a real maze of branching structures, and then the reef face drops away into a deeper blue. Look for the thorny flatheads perched on sandy patches, they're surprisingly well camouflaged. The big draw for us are the schools of giant trevally that often patrol the outer edge. They're impressive to watch, just these solid torpedoes of muscle cruising by. And keep an eye out for the big-spot anglerfish tucked into the crevices; they're masters of disguise and a real treat if you spot one. Visibility is generally excellent, often pushing 20-25 metres, and the current, while present, is usually gentle enough for a relaxed dive. We’d suggest an early morning dive if you can swing it, before the day boats get too busy. It’s perfect for divers who appreciate a good drift and want to see healthy, expansive coral formations with some serious fish action.
