BB 1 - North Sea Coast

BB 1 might not be the poster child for tropical diving, but it has a rugged charm that we really appreciate. Down here on the North Sea coast, you’re diving into a different kind of beauty, a colder, moodier landscape. What we love about BB 1 is the sheer density of life clinging to whatever structure it can find. We’ve seen red mullet rooting around in the sand, thick beds of blue mussels, and once, even a harbour porpoise breezing past, which was a real treat. The visibility can be a bit of a gamble; it shifts with the tides and the weather, but when it’s good, you’ll find yourself in a surprisingly clear, green world. Keep an eye out for whiting darting past and the more sedentary common sea stars. It’s not a deep dive, making it a good spot for those who enjoy taking their time to observe the smaller details. We’d suggest a thicker wetsuit or a drysuit, even in summer, as that North Sea chill bites right through. This site really suits divers who prefer discovery over dramatic scenery, those who get a kick out of spotting species like the elusive scaldfish or a well-camouflaged black goby.
