CATHRINE - North Sea Coast
Cathrine sits in a shallow trough, just three metres down, making her a perfect North Sea wreck for newer drysuit divers or anyone wanting a relaxed delve into history. She’s a fishing vessel, sunk back in 1950, and time has softened her edges, creating a fantastic habitat. We love how the hull is draped in green algae, swaying gently with the surge, and the visible ribs of her structure are now home to small scuttling crabs and clumps of mussels. Exploring Cathrine feels less like a wreck dive and more like a gentle underwater walk through a historical garden. You can trace her lines easily, spotting where the stern curves and imagining the nets that once hung from her. Our favourite feature is the way the light filters through the shallow water, illuminating the dark recesses where blennies peek out from the shadows. Go on a sunny day with minimal chop, and you’ll get the best visibility; it really transforms the site. She’s a great example of how the North Sea reclaims its own, turning tragedy into a quiet, vibrant ecosystem.
