DORTHEA - North Sea Coast

The Dorothea wreck, off the North Sea Coast, isn’t about depth, it’s about history and a surprising amount of life in the shallows. At a mere 1 meter, it’s more of a snorkel or wade-and-peek adventure than a traditional dive, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s boring. We love how accessible this old cutter is, her timbers scattered across the seabed, creating nooks and crannies for small crabs and little flatfish. It’s a completely different kind of wreck exploration, where the sunlight penetrates right to the bottom, illuminating every barnacle-covered plank. You’ll spend your time here drifting slowly over the visible remains, spotting shrimp darting between the wood and an occasional flounder camouflaged against the sand. It’s perfect for families, new snorkelers, or anyone who appreciates a wreck with a story, even if you’re barely getting your fins wet. Our favourite time to visit is on a calm, sunny day when the water is clearest and you can really make out the shape of what’s left of her hull. Look closely; sometimes you’ll find small pieces of ceramic or glass among the wreckage, little echoes of the past.
