EJDEREN (PROBABLY) - North Sea Coast

EJDEREN, or what we’re fairly sure is EJDEREN, off the North Sea Coast, is a proper wreck dive, the kind where you really feel that sense of history. She’s a sailing vessel, sunk to 29 metres, and the seabed around her is typically a silty grey. We’ve found her to be quite broken up, but there's still plenty of structure to explore, with timbers rising out of the sand and sections of hull offering interesting swim-throughs if you're comfortable with overhead environments. This isn’t a colourful coral reef, obviously. This is North Sea diving, so expect moody light and a greenish tint to the water. But the life that calls this wreck home is fascinating – we often spot large cod lurking in the deeper shadows of the collapsed masts and thick clusters of dead man's fingers clinging to the ancient wood. Our favourite time to dive here is on a calm, sunny day when the light filters down, illuminating the wreck just enough to make out the details. It's a dive that suits those who appreciate maritime history and the resilient marine life of colder waters.
