Elmaka is one of our favourite North Sea wrecks, a real standout despite its modest depth. This old fishing vessel, now classified as dangerous thanks to the shifting sands, offers a surprisingly rich dive. We love that the wreck is largely intact, especially the stern where you can still make out the outline of the propeller shaft. It’s a proper exploration, not just a pile of debris. When you drop down, the first thing that hits you is the sheer number of crabs – every crack and crevice seems to have a resident. Look closely, and you’ll spot flatfish camouflaged against the sand, sometimes with just their eyes poking out. We always find a few ling poking their heads from shadowed doorways, too. The visibility here can be a bit challenging, typical for the North Sea, but we've had some cracking dives with 10 metres or more. We'd suggest aiming for slack tide; it makes navigating the wreck far more enjoyable. This site is perfect for those who appreciate the history of a wreck and don't mind a bit of a hunt for marine life. It’s a dive that rewards patience.
