ELSE MARIE - North Sea Coast
The Else Marie is one of those wrecks that just grabs you, even with its sad history. Sunk in 1993 after a collision, this fishing vessel lies upright on a sandy bottom at 22 metres. We love how intact she is, especially for a fairly shallow North Sea wreck. You can still make out the superstructure, the wheelhouse, and even some of the fishing gear, now all draped in anemones and dead man’s fingers. Swimming through the hold, you’ll likely spook some cod or conger eels – we always see a few lurking in the darker corners. Visibility here can be a bit hit or miss, as you’d expect from the North Sea, but on a good day, it’s a genuinely atmospheric dive. The currents are generally mild, making it a pretty relaxed penetration if you’re comfortable with wreck diving. Our favourite spot is the stern, where the prop is still visible, encrusted with life and often surrounded by schools of small fish. It’s a fantastic dive for advanced open water divers looking for a proper wreck experience without extreme depths or currents.
