The Erich Ohlrogge sits upright on a sandy bottom at a very manageable 13 metres, making it a great wreck for divers looking to explore a piece of history without deep decompression obligations. This steamship met its end in 1943, a victim of a mine, and while she's broken in places, the general outline is still clear. We’ve found a surprising amount of fish sheltering in her holds and superstructure, mostly cod and lumpsuckers, along with the usual crabs scuttling over the plates. Visibility here can be a bit of a gamble, but on a good day, it’s a really engaging dive, especially for those who appreciate the quiet dignity of an older wreck and the life it now supports.
