FRAM III - North Sea Coast

Diving the Fram III isn’t about colourful reefs; it’s about a direct connection to history, cold war era diving. This fishing vessel, sunk in 1943, lies upright at 22 metres, surprisingly intact given its age and location in the North Sea. We love the way the light filters through the green water here, illuminating the structure, creating a moody, evocative scene. We usually drop right onto the wheelhouse, which is still largely there. The main deck is explorable, with much of the original superstructure still in place. Keep an eye out for conger eels poking their heads from the darker recesses and the huge schools of cod that often swirl around the stern. Visibility can be a challenge, sometimes dropping to a few metres, but on a good day, you'll see the full length of the 30-metre hull. It’s definitely a site for experienced wreck divers comfortable in colder water and with low visibility. Our favourite tip? Go early in the morning on a slack tide, before the wind picks up. It makes all the difference.
