GRATIA - North Sea Coast

The GRATIA isn't about deep blue or vast schools of fish. This is a shallow, historical wreck dive right off the North Sea Coast, sitting in just four metres of water. We love the feeling of connecting with history here, imagining the cold, grey day this fishing vessel hit a mine back in 1944. What you'll find is the skeletal remains of the boat, now completely taken over by the sea. Expect to see flatfish camouflaged on the sandy bottom, small crabs scuttling over the rusted plates, and sometimes a curious cod peering out from a shadowed crevice. It’s an ideal spot for macro enthusiasts, or anyone who appreciates the quiet drama of a wreck slowly dissolving into its environment. Our favourite time to visit is on a calm, sunny day when the light penetrates right to the bottom, illuminating the wreck and the marine life that calls it home. The low visibility that can plague this coast is far less of an issue when you're this shallow, but we’d still suggest checking local conditions before you go. This isn't a dive for coral fanatics; it's for those who appreciate the raw, powerful history of the North Sea.
