GRIBBEN - North Sea Coast

Gribben isn't your typical North Sea dive. It’s a schooner, sitting upright, and remarkably intact for a wreck classified as "dangerous." We love how the strong currents, which can be tricky to time, have kept the sand scoured away, leaving the hull exposed. Drop down and you’ll find the deck largely gone, but the ribs stand tall, creating these fantastic swim-throughs that feel like exploring the skeleton of a giant fish. Our favourite part is always the bow. You can still make out the anchor chains and the ghostly silhouette of the original mast structure. Look closely among the beams; lumpsucker fish often hide in the crevices, perfectly camouflaged. We’d suggest diving this on a slack tide, if you can nail the timing, to really appreciate the scale. Otherwise, be ready for a drift, letting the current carry you past the ribs, watching for the crabs scuttling amongst the debris. It’s a site for those who appreciate history and the power of the sea, not for spotting rare nudibranchs.
